A lake, a mountain and a hotel

　　Tai Lake: Located within Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, Tai Lake is surrounded by Huzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou. It covers an area of 800 kilometers and a total area of 2,400 square kilometers. Huzhou now administers the water area of 70 meters off the Tai Lake coastline and development rights of the area of 300 square kilometers. There are 48 islands of different sizes and 72 peaks in Tai Lake and Dalei Mountain and Xiaolei Mountain in Huzhou.

　　　Mount Bian: Located in the northwest of downtown Huzhou, crossing the boundary of Changxing County, Mount Bian is the major mountain in Huzhou. It links Tiaoxi River to the south and borders Tai Lake to the north. Mountains link each other from east to west. The old county annals describe that the mountain covers more than 100 kilometers, although each mountain has its own name, they are actually parts of Mount Bian. With an altitude of 521.6 meters, Yunfeng Peak, the main peak, stands towering in the center of Mount Bian just like a flying roc and is famous for its vast and forceful scenery.

　　　A wetland, a temple and a site

　　Changtianyang Wetland: Abutting Taihu Road to the east, Mount Bian to the west, the Tai Lake to the north and downtown Huzhou to the south, 6000-mu Changtianyang Wetland is identified as wetland resource with the most developing potential and attractiveness around the Tai Lake by World Tourism Organization. It has intact environment, featuring intertwined rivers, numerous fish ponds and diverse vegetations in the wetland. The ecological environment and the biodiversity is favorable here and there are many habitats for birds such as white sparrow, egret and wild duck. Changtianyang and Xitangyang are two largest wetlands and their water areas are 0.5 square kilometer and 0.25 square kilometer respectively.

　　　　Fahua Temple: Located in Fahua Mountain, southwest of Tai Lake Tourism Resort, Fahua Temple, a.k.a. Baique Temple, was built in the Liang Dynasty with a history of more than 1700 years. It is said that Huzhou is the birthplace of Avalokitesvara Buddhisatva and Fahua Temple is where Avalokitesvara achieves the immortal-hood. On the birthday, the day when Avalokitesvara becomes a monk and the day when Avalokitesvara achieves the immortal-hood, groups of devout worshippers come to pray for fortune and luck. According to folklore, Baique Mountain is where Avalokitesvara Buddhisatva becomes a monk and Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan City is where Avalokitesvara Buddhisatva achieves the immortal-hood. Those who believe in Avalokitesvara Buddhisatva cannot but visit Baique Mountain and Putuo Mountain.

　　  Qiucheng Site: Clutching the Xiaomeikou entrance of Tai Lake and fronting water and with a hill at the back, Qiucheng Site is favorable for offence and defense. It is the earliest city in the history in Huzhou, which dates back to the late Spring and Autumn Period and was built by Fu Gai, younger brother of Fu Chai, king of the Kingdom of Wu. The total area of the site is 30,000 square meters and the site belongs to major historical and cultural sites under provincial protection. There are Neolithic Age Sites in the eastern, southern and southwestern part of Qiucheng, thus earning its name “Qiucheng Site”. The upper layer is about Majiabang Culture, which dates back to 6000 years ago. Archaeologists have discovered large architecture ruins, stone implements which were means of production then, pottery pig, and animal remains such as cattle, deer, pig and fish, indicating that people had settled down to life involving weaving, pottery and rearing poultry. The middle layer of the site is about Songze Culture, which dates back to more than 5000 years ago. The upper layer of the site is ancient city walls in the Spring and Autumn Period.
