Xiazhu Lake Wetland Scenic Area

　　The Xiazhu Lake, also called Fangfeng Lake (Protecting Wind Lake) or Fengzhu Lake, is located in Deqing County of Zhejing Province, north of Hangzhou. The lake is 40 kilometers to Hangzhou downtown and 4 kilometers to the exit of Hang-Ning Expressway. It is the largest wetland in the south of the Yangtze River formed by nature. The area of the lake is 10 square kilometers, and the main part of it is 3.4 square kilometers, which is the fifth largest inner lake in Zhejing Province.

　　Xiazhu Lake Wetland Scenic Area is a new exploited natural ecological scenic area in Deqing. It focuses on the aim of ecological conservation, and expresses the characteristics, such as nature, rustic charm and tranquillity. Boat is the main vehicle for people to experience artistic conception of primitive rustic charm and return to nature.

　　The Xiazhu Lake is rich in aquatic products, such as water caltrop, lotus root, fishes, shrimp, mussel, turtle, eel and so on. The total area for fish cultivating is about 55 hectares, and the area of water field is about 10 hectares. It is one of the cultivating base for “Oushiman Brand” pearls and “Shuijingling Brand” shrimp. The rural dishes of the Xiazhu Lake have special tastes. The special rural dishes of The Spring and Autumn Restaurant and The Jiangnan Gumu Restaurant attract many tourists to enjoy. The Xiazhu Lake wetland is the sweet home of birds,aigrettes and shoebill and other birds in summer, mainly perching wigeons in winter, which has become a beautiful sight of the wetland.
