Nanxun Ancient Town Scenic Area

　　Nanxun, like a bright pearl at the south bank of the Tai Lake, was established in the 13th century. It is a historic and cultural town in China. The period from Empeor Wanli of Ming Dynasty to the early Republic of China saw the prime time of this ancient town in its history.

　　Nanxun Ancient Town, a part of the prefecture-level city of Huzhou, is located in the plain between Hangzhou, Jiaxing and Huzhou. Like an emrald belt, an ancient canal encircles the town. Nanxun enjoys convenient transportation because of easy access to expressways from Shanghai to Anhui Province. It is 120 KM away from either Shanghai or Hangzhou, a one-hour drive to either city, and only a three-hour drive to Nanjing and Ningbo.

　　Nanxun is closely related to the history of the former Republic of China, enjoying the fame as “The No. 1 Town in the Republic of China”. At the start of the 20th century, many rich merchants from Nanxun, led by Zhang Jingjiang, supported Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary activities and made historic contributions to the founding of the Republic of China. When Sun Yat-sen acted as the President, he approved Nanxun as a special city.
