Built in 884 A.D. in the Tang Dynasty, it has a unique 'pagoda inside pagoda' structure. The outside pagoda was built in the years of Kaibao (968-976) in the Northern Song Dynasty. The whole thing underwent an overall renovation after it was struck by thunderbolt in 1138 during the eighth year of the Southern Song Dynasty. The inside pagoda is an octagonal five-story solid structure decorated with all kinds of exquisite Buddhism patterns. The outside pagoda is built with bricks and has a built-in staircase that leads to the top floor. The unique structure of the pagoda is a rare example in the history of pagoda architecture of China.
